Connect your Cloudflare domain

Put your Looops website on a domain whose DNS is at Cloudflare. One click, Cloudflare adds the two records for you and you confirm on their screen. Manual steps included, with the one setting that trips people up.

Is your domain's DNS at Cloudflare? This is the easiest case: Looops and Cloudflare are set up so that one click adds the records for you. This page walks you through it, and shows the manual steps for when you prefer to add the records yourself. When you are done, both www.yourbusiness.com and yourbusiness.com show your site, with HTTPS included.

Custom domains are available on paid plans (Personal and Pro). If you do not have a domain yet, you can buy one inside Looops and skip this page entirely.

Before you start

  • You need the Cloudflare login for the account that holds the domain.
  • If your domain currently points at another website (an old site, a parked page, a Cloudflare Pages site), connecting it to Looops replaces that. Visitors will see your Looops site instead.
  • Make sure your Looops site is published first, so there is something to show when the domain goes live.

Step 1: add the domain in Looops

Open the Domain settings

In the builder, click your project name (top left), choose Website settings, then Domain, and pick Connect a domain you own.

Type your domain

Enter it as www.yourbusiness.com. Looops checks where your domain's DNS lives and, for Cloudflare, offers the one-click setup.

Option A: one click, Cloudflare adds the records

You will see a button that says Connect automatically with Cloudflare. Click it and Cloudflare does the work.

How it works

Click Connect automatically with Cloudflare

You are taken to the Cloudflare dashboard. Log in if asked, and pick the account that holds the domain if you have more than one.

Approve the change

Cloudflare shows you exactly which records Looops is asking for: one for www and one for the bare domain. Confirm.

You are sent back to Looops

Looops confirms the connection and sets up the security certificate. Your site is usually live on your domain within a few minutes.

Good to know
  • Nothing changes at Cloudflare until you confirm on their screen. If you close it or cancel, no records are touched.
  • Cloudflare only changes the two records Looops needs, and it adds them as plain DNS records (proxy off). Your email records and anything else stay as they are.
  • If Cloudflare reports a problem, Looops tells you and shows the manual records instead (Option B). You can also try the button again.

Option B: add two records at Cloudflare yourself

Prefer to do it by hand, or the button did not finish? The Looops screen shows the two records to add, each with a copy button. Here is where they go at Cloudflare. Keep the Looops screen open in another tab so you can copy the values.

Open your domain's DNS records

Log in at dash.cloudflare.com, click your domain, then DNS and Records.

Add the record for www

Click Add record. Type CNAME, name www, target the value shown in Looops (it ends in looops.site). Set Proxy status to DNS only (the cloud icon turns grey). Save. If a www record already exists, edit it instead.

Add the record for the bare domain

Add record again. Type A, name @, IPv4 address the one shown in Looops (it starts with 34.), Proxy status: DNS only. Save. If an A record for @ already exists, edit it.

Back in Looops, click Verify

Cloudflare changes spread within a minute or two. Looops also checks on its own for a couple of minutes after you add the domain. Once it sees the records, the security certificate is set up automatically.

Troubleshooting

Verify keeps failing
  1. Check both records match exactly what the Looops screen shows: the CNAME for www and the A record for @.
  2. Make sure both records are DNS only (grey cloud). With the orange cloud on, Cloudflare hides the real values and Looops cannot see them.
  3. Make sure there is only one record for www and one for @. An old record with the same name blocks the new one.
The bare domain shows a Cloudflare error page or an old site

There is an older record for @ still in place, usually a proxied one from a previous site. Open DNS, Records, find the @ record, and either edit it to the Looops address with DNS only, or delete it and add the new one.

The automatic button is not showing

The button appears when your domain's DNS is on Cloudflare's nameservers. If your domain is registered at Cloudflare but its DNS is elsewhere, use the guide for that provider, or Option B above once the DNS is on Cloudflare.
