Connect your GoDaddy domain

Put your Looops website on a domain you bought at GoDaddy. Two DNS records added by hand, about five minutes, with the exact values shown in your Looops settings.

Bought your domain at GoDaddy? This page shows you where the DNS screen lives at GoDaddy and what to put in it. When you are done, both www.yourbusiness.com and yourbusiness.com show your site, with HTTPS included.

Custom domains are available on paid plans (Personal and Pro). If you do not have a domain yet, you can buy one inside Looops and skip all of this: bought domains are set up for you.

Before you start

  • You need the GoDaddy login for the account that holds the domain.
  • If the domain currently shows another website or a parked page, connecting it to Looops replaces that. Visitors will see your Looops site instead.
  • Publish your Looops site first, so there is something to show when the domain goes live.

Step 1: add the domain in Looops

Open the Domain settings

In the builder, click your project name (top left), choose Website settings, then Domain, and pick Connect a domain you own.

Type your domain

Enter it as www.yourbusiness.com and click Connect.

Keep the screen open

Looops now shows you two records with a copy button next to each. Those are the values you will paste at GoDaddy in the next step. Leave this tab open.

Step 2: add the two records at GoDaddy

Open your DNS records

Log in at godaddy.com, open My Products, find your domain and click DNS. You land on a list of records.

Turn off Forwarding if it is on

Scroll to Forwarding. If there is a forward set for your domain, delete it. Forwarding adds its own records for the bare domain and they fight with the ones you are about to add.

Add the www record

Click Add New Record. Type CNAME, Name www, Value: paste the target from the Looops screen. Save.

Add the bare domain record

Click Add New Record again. Type A, Name @, Value: paste the address from the Looops screen. Save.

If a record for www or @ already exists, edit that one instead of adding a second. GoDaddy will not let you have two records with the same name.

Step 3: wait for it to go live

Nothing else to do. Looops checks every couple of minutes and the settings screen updates on its own. Most GoDaddy domains are live within the hour, and the security certificate is issued a few minutes after the records arrive.

If something looks wrong

  • Still says the records have not reached us. GoDaddy can take up to an hour to publish a change. Check that the www record is a CNAME and not an A record, and that you did not leave a trailing dot or a space in the value.
  • The bare domain shows a GoDaddy page. Forwarding is still on. Delete it, then wait a few minutes.
  • You see a certificate warning. The certificate is issued after the records arrive. Give it ten minutes and reload.

Still stuck? Open the Domain settings in Looops and click message us. The message arrives with your domain and provider attached, so we can look straight away.
