Connect your Namecheap domain

Put your Looops website on a domain you bought at Namecheap. Two DNS records added by hand, about five minutes, with the exact values shown in your Looops settings.

Bought your domain at Namecheap? This page shows you where the DNS screen lives at Namecheap and what to put in it. When you are done, both www.yourbusiness.com and yourbusiness.com show your site, with HTTPS included.

Custom domains are available on paid plans (Personal and Pro). If you do not have a domain yet, you can buy one inside Looops and skip all of this: bought domains are set up for you.

Before you start

  • You need the Namecheap login for the account that holds the domain.
  • New Namecheap domains come with a parking page. Connecting the domain to Looops replaces it.
  • Publish your Looops site first, so there is something to show when the domain goes live.

Step 1: add the domain in Looops

Open the Domain settings

In the builder, click your project name (top left), choose Website settings, then Domain, and pick Connect a domain you own.

Type your domain

Enter it as www.yourbusiness.com and click Connect.

Keep the screen open

Looops now shows you two records with a copy button next to each. Those are the values you will paste at Namecheap in the next step. Leave this tab open.

Step 2: add the two records at Namecheap

Open Advanced DNS

Log in at namecheap.com, open Domain List, click Manage next to your domain, then open the Advanced DNS tab.

Clear out the parking records

In Host records, delete any existing record whose host is www or @. New domains usually have a CNAME to parkingpage.namecheap.com and a URL Redirect record. Both have to go.

Add the www record

Click Add New Record. Type CNAME Record, Host www, Value: paste the target from the Looops screen.

Add the bare domain record

Click Add New Record again. Type A Record, Host @, Value: paste the address from the Looops screen.

Save

Click the green Save changes tick. Namecheap does not save a row until you click it.

Leave the TTL as Automatic. You do not need to change the nameservers: they should stay on Namecheap BasicDNS.

Step 3: wait for it to go live

Nothing else to do. Looops checks every couple of minutes and the settings screen updates on its own. Most Namecheap domains are live within half an hour, and the security certificate is issued a few minutes after the records arrive.

If something looks wrong

  • Still says the records have not reached us. The most common cause is an unsaved row. Reopen Advanced DNS and check both records are listed. Also check that a URL Redirect record did not come back.
  • The bare domain shows the parking page. The old @ record is still there. Delete it, keep only the A record.
  • You see a certificate warning. The certificate is issued after the records arrive. Give it ten minutes and reload.

Still stuck? Open the Domain settings in Looops and click message us. The message arrives with your domain and provider attached, so we can look straight away.
