Add signups to Mailchimp or Brevo

A newsletter form on your website that adds each signup to your Mailchimp audience or Brevo list, ready for your next campaign. Where to find the key, what to paste, how it is checked.

Newsletters are best sent from a tool built for it, with unsubscribe links and delivery handled for you. Your website's job is to collect the signups and pass them on. This works on websites with the database switched on (Personal and Pro plans); on a free site, the assistant can embed the signup form your tool gives you instead.

Ask for it

"Add a newsletter signup to the footer and put each address in my Mailchimp audience."

The assistant shows a card with the values your tool needs. Collect them first with the steps below, then paste and save.

Mailchimp

You need two values: an API key and your Audience ID.

The key:

  1. In Mailchimp, click your profile icon at the bottom left and choose Profile.
  2. Open the Extras menu and choose API keys.
  3. Click Create A Key, give it a name (your website's name), and click Generate Key.
  4. Click Copy Key to Clipboard and paste it into the Mailchimp API key field in Looops. Mailchimp shows it only once.

The audience:

  1. Click Audience, and pick the audience if you have several.
  2. Open More options (or Manage Audience) and choose Audience settings.
  3. Copy the Audience ID shown in the table and paste it into the Mailchimp audience ID field.

The key ends with a dash and a code such as -us21; that code tells your site which Mailchimp server to talk to, nothing to do on your side.

Brevo

You need an API key and a List ID.

The key:

  1. In Brevo, open your account menu at the top right and choose Settings (or SMTP & API directly).
  2. Under SMTP & API, open the API Keys tab and click Generate a new API key.
  3. Name it (your website's name), leave the expiry as you prefer, and click Generate.
  4. Copy the key and paste it into the Brevo API key field in Looops. Brevo shows it only once.

The list:

  1. Open Contacts, then Lists.
  2. The number next to the list name (or in its address bar, #) is the List ID. Paste it into the Brevo list ID field.

The check

After you save, the assistant asks the tool for the audience or list and tells you what it found, for example "Mailchimp key valid, audience found, 312 contacts". Then sign up once with your own address on your site and watch it appear in your tool.

Good to know

  • Double opt-in (a confirmation email before the address is added) is a setting inside Mailchimp and Brevo, not on your site. Switch it on there if your country expects it.
  • The key gives full access to your mailing account. Only ever paste it in the card. If it leaks, delete it in the tool, create a new one, and update it under Website settings, Environment variables.
  • Sending the newsletter itself stays in Mailchimp or Brevo.

Common questions

I use another tool (MailerLite, ConvertKit, Klaviyo). Ask the assistant. Most offer a similar API key under their settings; it writes the steps in the chat before showing the card.

Can the signup also go to Slack or a spreadsheet? Yes, see Slack and Zapier, Make or n8n.
